New Firmware Updates Across Multiple Models
Leica recently released firmware version 4.0.0 for both the SL-Series and Q3 family of cameras, marking one of the most significant software upgrades in recent memory.
Here’s what’s new in the firmware:
Redesigned User Interface: The Leica Q3 lineup gets a completely reworked interface inspired by the SL3’s user experience — cleaner menus, faster navigation, and improved touch-functionality.
Faster & More Accurate Autofocus: Improvements to the autofocus system across SL3, SL3-S, and Q3 models mean quicker subject detection and better tracking for both photography and video work.
Multishot Mode (SL3): The SL3 now supports a high-resolution multishot mode — ideal for ultra-detailed landscape or product work.
Cloud Workflow Integration: SL3 and SL3-S can now connect directly to Adobe Frame.io, streamlining pro workflows.
In addition to this major update, Leica also quietly issued smaller firmware releases earlier this year — such as the update to the D-Lux 8 that improved its WLAN security and Bluetooth implementation to meet EU regulatory standards.
There have also been community reports of incremental firmware versions rolling out for Leica M11 family cameras, adding support for new lenses like the Noctilux-M 35 f/1.2 ASPH and improving compatibility across the range.
Together, these updates show Leica’s ongoing commitment to keeping existing cameras relevant and improving performance even years after release.
